Wine Enthusiast’s Countertop Wine Cooler

As far as small wine fridges go, it doesn’t get much smaller than six bottles! It might seem outrageous to spend more than $100 on such a small fridge, but Wine Enthusiast is one of the most trusted and reliable names out there.

One of the biggest perks to this tiny option is it can sit on your kitchen counter!

Personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with Ca’ Lefort, but if you’re planning to invest in one of the best fridges on the market, a bundle is well worth your while. My personal favorite is the 24” wine fridge which allows you to store 54 bottles of wine – all at the perfect temperature!

These stainless steel fridges come with digital electronic touch panels that allow you to customize temperature and set the mood with three different lighting features –  Soft White, Cool Blue, and Retro Amber. They look great freestanding, but if you have a home renovation project coming up, these will look great under your counters!

Dual Zone Wine Fridges

If you’re someone who enjoys reds, whites, roses, and sparkling wines, I would recommend investing in a dual zone wine fridge! Typically, these options have a warmer temperature range in the lower zone that’s more ideal for red wine, while the upper zones are a bit chillier and more suitable for whites, roses, or sparkling wines.

If you need flexibility, I would highly recommend considering these options.

NewAir Freestanding 28 Bottle Dual Zone Compressor Wine Fridge

You’ll pretty much have two wine coolers in one with this 28-bottle dual zone compressor from NewAir. The upper zone reaches a chilly 40°F – making it ideal for sparkling wines – while the lower zone will go up to 66°F for your bottles of red.

Apart from all the great temperature, lighting, and humidity controls that help store your wines under the most ideal conditions, the shelving is also super versatile and allows you some customizability for easy access.

If you’re going to make the investment of a wine fridge – or possibly convince a significant other to make the investment with you – why not combine a dual zone wine fridge with the purchase of a beverage fridge. Whether you want to store beers on the other side, or stock up on Capri Sun pouches on the other, you’ll love the versatility and flexibility of this option!

Typically $650

Wine Fridge Cabinets

If you don’t know where you’d find space in your kitchen for a wine fridge, or you’re someone who loves to host and wants to store their collection in the middle of an entertainment space, wine fridge cabinets might be an excellent option for you.

Bar Cabinet with Refrigerated Cooler

There’s something to be said about the convenience of a bar cabinet – especially ones that include a wine fridge. If you’re hosting friends or family, you don’t need to leave the room, or even the conversation, in order to serve up a great bottle of wine at the ideal temperature.

You’ll love the way these pieces fit into your living spaces, but you might not love the price tag. Some options run into the thousands, so believe me when I say this option is a great find!

It’s technically a refrigerated cooler, but with an adjustable temperature range of 39.2°F to 64.4°F, you can store red or white wines at the optimal temperature.

Typically $1,400 – Currently On Sale

Modern Bar Cabinet with Refrigerated Beverage Cooler

If you like the idea of a bar cabinet, but you’re looking for something a little more modern, this is another great find! Again, this option technically includes a refrigerated beverage cooler, but since it offers chilled storage from 39.2°F to 64.4°F, you can keep your white wines crisp at the perfect serving temperature, or keep things a little warmer for long term storage of your favorite red wine bottles.

Unfortunately, you don’t have the option of dual storage, but if you tend to lean heavily towards one type of wine over another, this fridge can hold up to 15 bottles. Because of the home bar aesthetic of this piece, though, you’ll be able to store all kinds of wines and spirits here.

Typically $1,100 – Currently On Sale

Important Things to Know About Storing Wine At Home

There are many factors to consider when storing your wine at home. First, it’s important to understand that not all wine ages. If your bottles are meant to be enjoyed within one to two years, short-term storage will look different than long-term wine storage. For bottles that age over time, a good wine fridge is a well worthwhile investment!

Here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re storing wine at home;

Regular temperature fluctuations will negatively impact your wine. Keeping your wine in a temperature-stable environment is essential. Warmer temperatures (above 68°F) can speed up the aging process, so a cooler environment is ideal. Pro tip: never store your wine near the oven or any other appliance that produces heat to avoid temperature fluctuations. All that said, storing red wine will differ from white wine, and sparkling wines, and it’s important to know the difference:

  • How to Store Red Wine – Red wine is typically stored between 55-65 °F. However, it can be served closer to room temperature.
  • How to Store White Wine – White wine is best stored and served slightly more chilled than red wine, ideally around 45-55°F.
  • How to Store Sparkling Wine – The recommended temperature for storing sparkling wine is between 40°F to 50°F. The ideal temperature to sip and enjoy is a chilly 45°F.

Lighting Do’s and Don’ts

Exposure to UV rays quickly ages wine, causing premature aging and changes to it’s flavor and aromas. For this reason, keeping wine in darker (and cooler) spaces, away from bright lights, is optimal.

When wine is exposed to vibrations or rapid movement, the sediment is disturbed and the aging process is interrupted. Don’t store wine near anything that moves, even just slightly, such as a fridge, microwave, or dishwasher.

Similar to temperature, humidity can affect the quality of your wine. Wine is vulnerable to humidity levels. When too high, humidity can impact the longevity of your wine. In addition, low humidity levels can create a dried cork.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth getting a wine fridge?

If you have wines that need to age in order to better appreciate the depth of their flavors, a wine fridge is absolutely well worth the investment! It doesn’t just keep your wines at the ideal temperature, they also help to protect from harsh lighting, minimize vibrations, and control humidity.

When you don’t store your wines in ideal conditions, it can actually ruin them. Depending on how much you’re investing into a nice bottle of wine, just being able to save a few bottles from sub-optimal conditions means the wine fridge would pay for itself after a few uses.

Who makes the most reliable wine refrigerator?

Personally, two of my favorite brands include Ca’ Lefort and Wine Enthusisat, but all of the brands you find in this guide will do a great job at keeping your wines at the perfect temperature.

What is the most popular wine cooler?

How much should I spend on a wine fridge?

I think that really depends on a few things. The most obvious thing to consider is your budget, because you’ll find a wide range of prices when it comes to wine fridges. The other thing to consider is the amount of money you’re spending on your wine. If you regularly like to purchase wines at a higher pricepoint, I would suggest maybe spending a bit more on your wine fridge to protect those investments.

How long should a wine fridge last?

The typical lifespan of a wine fridge usually falls somewhere between 5-10 years, or even longer with proper care and maintatince.
