Do you feel as though your home’s garden is a little unruly right now? If so, then now is the time for you to do something about that. If you don’t, then you may find that it ends up looking unkempt for years to come, and this is the last thing you want. If you want to do something about this, then simply take a look below.

Watering

The first thing you need to tackle is watering. Watering your plants is so important, and it’s one of the best ways for you to care for your garden as well. If you can, you need to make sure that there is enough water in the soil so that the plants can absorb it through their roots. At the same time, if you experience a lot of hot weather, you may find that you have to water more often. The main reason for this is that the plants will need more water on hot summer days than they will on shady days. Seedlings and even young plants also need watering on a more regular basis than others. If you transport or plant something, then this can also damage the hairs on the roots, and it is their job to absorb water.

If you want to help yourself here, then you need to make sure that you give them more water during this time. If you do, then you will notice that it is easier for them to get the water that they need, and you don’t end up ruining your plants by not simply taking the time to understand what they want.

Feeding Your Plants

You also need to take the time to feed your plants. As well as waste, plants tend to absorb nutrients and minerals through their roots. Nitrogen in particular aids with leaf growth, and phosphorus helps to encourage the development of the plant. Potassium is also very important, as this aids with fruit and flower development. Things like this are as important if you want to keep your plant healthy. IN the wild, leaf litter and even decomposing plants will usually add nutrients back into the soil, but if you have a garden, then there is a high chance that you just throw them into your compost bin. If you want to stop this from being so wasteful, then you can pick up a leaf vacuum mulcher. When you have one of these, you can suck up all of the leaves in your garden and you can then either add them to the base of your plants, or you can compost them. You can also add organic compost or a fertilizer to feed your plants. If you can do this, then you will soon find that it is easier for you to encourage earthworm activity. You can also help to promote soil activity, which will help you to keep your plants nice and healthy.

Pruning

When you have mastered things like watering and feeding, you can then move on to pruning.

Pruning is such a big part of gardening, and you should really take it seriously. While some shrubs and trees will grow unchecked, most of them need cutting back from time to time. Pruning is a very good way for you to cut off some parts of a plant so you can restrict its size. You can also encourage it to grow differently if you want. Things like this can help to lead to more fruit, and it can also help more flowers and stems to develop as well. As if that wasn’t enough, it is also a good way for you to try and remove any dead or diseased material. Many new gardeners feel a little intimidated about pruning, and this is completely understandable. With that said, there are some things that you can do to make your life a little easier. To start with, you need to try and find out what plants you are working with. The main reason for this is that if you are working with roses, then these need to be pruned in a different way from other plants. It is true that if you get the pruning wrong, then you could risk damaging the plants, but the internet is full of information that you can use to your advantage. When you do, you will find that it is easier than ever for you to not only get the result you want, but also keep your garden nice, neat, and tidy.

Storage

It is also a very good idea for you to try and get your storage in order. If you don’t, then you risk your garden becoming overrun with tools, which is the last thing you want. If you want to try and do something about this, then it’s a good idea to try and invest in a good storage system. It may be that you use garden boxes, or that you invest in a shed. Either way, if you can make sure that you have something that you can use, then this will help you to keep your tools organized, and it will also allow you to adopt a schedule that you can stick to.

Sow Seeds Early

Lastly, you need to try and make sure that you are sowing your seeds early. If you do not sow seeds early enough, then you will soon find that you end up with a big issue on your hands, as you will have an empty garden with nothing to plant. You need to take note of what seeds you want to plant so you can get them out early enough and get them a head start before the bad weather hits. If you can do this, then you will notice a huge improvement in your garden as well as how easy it is to maintain it. If you need some help with your garden, then remember, you can reduce its maintenance by simply rolling out some artificial turf or by putting some decking down.
