Everything You Need to Know About Sparkling Wine for New Years

Rule numero uno…. Whatever you pick is sure to be a delight this time of year! It’s more about sharing something sparkling with great company and looking forward to the year ahead. No wrong choices here! Chill ahead of time and pop open when the moment’s right. With that said, there are several different “types” of sparkling wine. Here are a few of my favorites from each style, as well as an explanation on what’s what.

Three Wines Perfect for Thanksgiving - And WHY

Three Wines Perfect for Thanksgiving - And WHY

When it comes to pairing wine with food, I’m a firm believer that there are no “wrong” answers. As long as you love the food and love the wine, you’re in a good place! With that said, there are some pairings that “pop” more than others. When you find something that’s truly meant to be together, the food brings out depth and complexity in the wine, the wine enhances the food, and it’s a match made in heaven. For my Thanksgiving roundup, I’ve chosen three varietals that you can find in any wine shop or grocery store in a range of price points. These wines work well with the smorgasbord of foods that are commonly served up on the Thanksgiving menu, and I’ve gone ahead and explained why. These "rules" for food pairings are not required, but they'll help direct you to finding those soul-mate food and wine pairings no matter what you're eating or drinking.

Merlot Month Favorites

Merlot Month Favorites

October is Merlot Month -- probably my favorite "wine holiday" out there! Merlot is one of the two main varietals in the OG Wine Region... Bordeaux. It's capable of producing complex, interesting wines in a range of diverse styles. You can find Merlots that are bright and eager to be drunk now, Merlots that are deep and brooding, and Merlots that are complicated and full of interesting characteristics, just waiting to reach the perfect age.

Canned Wine: Recent Fad or Here to Stay?

A Skeptic's Guide to Canned Wine

Wine is so often synonymous with luxury, snobbery, showmanship... but those aren’t the things I love about wine. I love the story, the people, the way it brings humans together over a good glass. So I had to ask myself... could there not a place for canned wine in my life?

Perfect Pairings for the 4th of July

The fourth of July offers up a whole feast of amazing wine pairing opportunities! While it may traditionally be focused around beer, it's also the perfect time to pop open a bottle of nice, chilled white from America's heartland of wine -- Napa Valley. Check out some of my favorite summer pairings!

Unexpected Poolside Sipping: White Port

Unexpected Poolside Sipping: White Port

White Port is the ultimate mixer for hot summer days. With an interestingly complex but refreshing taste, there’s a lot of flavor opportunities to play with. For a simple and refreshing mix drink, swap out the gin in a gin and tonic with a white Port, like Fonseca Siroco; the tonic helps bring out the nutty, complex flavors of the fortified wine.

Barolo, the Holiday-ready King of Wines brought to you by Fontanafredda

Barolo, the Holiday-ready King of Wines brought to you by Fontanafredda

Barolo is by far one of my favorite wines. Italian reds were where I really fell in love with the world of wine in general and all it had to offer. Italian reds are food friendly, dynamic, complex, and elegant... all at a more affordable price point than comparable quality in French wines. Luxury without breaking the bank.
