I had the amazing opportunity to experience this a few weeks ago during their 2019 experience and it was by far one of the highlights of my wine blogging career.

Abbot's Passage: The Coolest Place in Sonoma

Abbot’s Passage is a distinctive destination in downtown Sonoma that is home to unique regularly scheduled workshops that pair hands-on education and exploration with tastings of Katie Bundschu’s small-lot, co-fermented field blend wines. Grapes are sourced from prominent storied vineyards, and she’s apt to make wines just as unique as her space, such as a Chenin Blanc/Verdejo blend. ⁣

Madera, Califonia: Sweet Wine Paradise

Each year, me and my two girl-friends from NYC take an annual "girls' trip". We initially met while working in the Buying Office at Bloomingdale's, but have since moved to California for various career reasons. This year, in an effort to explore more of the state, we ventured inland to Madera to see what this wine region is all about.

Robert Young Estate

With farming roots that go back to 1858, six generations have lived and farmed the Young Estate in Alexander Valley. In 1997, they decided to make their own wine while continuing to sell portions of their harvest to other winemakers-- reserving the best grapes for themselves. Robert Young believes in selecting and farming micro-lots with the highest potential to craft their estate wines, hand-harvesting the grapes for maximum quality.

Day Trip to Calaveras County

Calaveras County is nestled in the heart of the Sierra Foothills AVA, and home to wineries big and small. They offer a unique, home-grown feel to their wineries with down-to-earth people and obvious farming roots. They maintain their 19th-century charm, including the historic Murphy's Hotel, which once hosted Mark Twain. Just 2.5 hours outside of San Francisco, Calaveras is a wonderful escape from the city and showcases a whole other part of California.

Visit Tri-Valley

The Tri-Valley is the coolest place you’ve never heard of… yet. Comprised of three valleys that come together (hence the name), this area features the cities of Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore, and the sweet little town of Danville. There’s the historic wine region— Livermore Valley AVA, charming breweries and pubs along their beer trail, even an ice-cream trail.
